10 Ways I Leverage the Mydoma Visualizer To Create Stunning Interior Design Renders

Today I wanted to share some things that you may not know about when it comes to the Mydoma Visualizer. As I work 1:1 with designers in my hands-on rendering workshops, I get some great questions from my students that I wouldn’t think about since I’ve been rendering in the software for so long. So whether you are a newbie at rendering or if you have been doing it for a while, there are a few cool things that the program does that you may not know about.

Now, here is my top 10 list of things you can create in the Visualizer besides stunning 4K visuals (side-note, many features are on the Pro Visualizer plan only!):

1. Floor Plans (With a Variety of Options!)

  • Color floor plans (materials and solid colors)
  • Line drawing, dimensioned floor plans (ability to add callouts and dimensions)
  • Furniture plan (add dimensions between furniture pieces)
  • Floor finish plan
  • Reflected ceiling plan

2. Elevations

  • Auto-dimensioned with the ability to add or remove dimensions.
    • View in line drawing, black Autocad format, or with materials applied. (dimensional drawing elevations and decorative elevation views)

3. Build Your Own 3D Model and Texture Library

  • Import your favorite Sketchup (and other supported file formatted) 3D models
  • Add .jpg or .png textures to apply to any of the tens of thousands of products located in the white label libraries in the program. This can be rugs, art, tile, flooring, paint, wallpaper, etc.

4. Build Your Own Personal Library

  • Speed up your process with your favorite models and materials.
  • Pro-tip: Instead of reinventing the wheel every time you design similarly styled space, group floor plans of kitchens or other furniture groupings to create your own templates to use in other projects.
  • Ungroup and edit the products in your new project to quickly change the look.

5. Quick Search A Picture Of A Product You Want To Find A 3D Model For In The White Label Library

  • Then you can change dimensions and materials to make it come to life as the product you are specifying!

6. Create VR Walk-Through Tours

  • Your clients can then use an inexpensive headset and their phone to “walk” through their new space before signing off on the design.

7. Easily Create Animated Video Tours

  • You can then send them to your client, add them to your website, and use them for social media. When searching in the “public library” use the keyword “Dynamic” to find things that will move in your videos.  SEE MY EXAMPLE HERE

8. Share For Easy Collaboration

  • Share your projects with other Mydoma Visualizer users to collaborate on together (perfect for working with a VA). You can also share product models with other Mydoma Visualizer users to grow your libraries together.

9. Leverage The Product Library

  • Utilize the Mydoma product library to curate your own Private Label furniture line and explore new products we add to the library for you to drag and drop into your plans.

9. Use For Passive Income

  • Tag your images with affiliate links to create passive income and embed the image into your website or client portal.

Now of course there are 1000 other things I can tell you about shortcuts and rendering, but those are my top 10 for today 🙂

2 Fun Facts:

  1.  I rarely upload my own 3D models to the program because the library is so robust that I can typically just add a material to a model in the program and it looks SOO similar to the actual product that my clients don’t see the difference. Especially when accompanied by a concept board or shopping list image.
  2. I rarely have to rig my lighting in the program because it typically renders it nearly perfect or in a way I can post-edit with slight exposure adjustments after (in the program itself or in Photoshop/ Lightroom).

Also, if you are not telling your clients that renders are visual representations of the space and are not always 100% accurate on color (computer monitor) or EXACT products, then you are doing yourself and your client a disservice. It’s important to always make that clear from the get go.

I am guilty of not telling my Photographer client that the SW white paint I added to her render will not look totally accurate on her various models to what it is in real life. I told her about the products, but forgot to mention paint and how the render lighting scheme and the scenes she may be looking on may not accurately depict it. Luckily I selected her paint in person and showed her on site.  We all make mistakes, so I figured I’d let you know now so you may be able to avoid that in the future.

And if you are struggling to find the time to learn how to render or if you are just not a self-learner, I’d love to have you in one of my upcoming render workshops! I have 3 sessions available for beginners (1 is specifically K&B focused on the 31st) and I’ll be changing up the workshops a bit – so be sure to reserve your spot now as spaces are limited! Hope to see you there!
