Top Tips to Make Industry Trade Shows Less Exhausting

It’s a universal truth that trade shows can be EXHAUSTING!

Interior Design Trade Shows and Markets are no exception. So, we’ve put together a few tips to help you survive the trade show season. Whether you’re headed to Las Vegas Market, High Point Market, IDS, KBIS or any of the other markets in between, these tips should come in handy!

Dress to impress – It’s tempting to wear leggings and sneakers, but you never know who you’ll run into, so keep it business appropriate, but still comfortable.

Charge your electronics – Make sure all your electronics are charged, and bring a portable battery pack with you so you’re never without a charge.

See if there’s an app – Check to see if the trade show or any of the exhibitors have apps you can download in advance with maps and other info to help you plan your visit.

Hashtag it – Search hashtags for the event ahead of time, or for specific exhibitors so you can Tweet and Instagram with the most impact.

Bring snacks – Pack yourself some (healthy) snacks like you would for a toddler (don’t we all act like toddlers when we’re hangry?)

Stack the deck – Pick up business cards and, most importantly, follow up with the people or companies that really stood out to you. Once the cards hit your desk drawer, you’re not going to do the follow up, so do it right away to get the most out of your experience.

Take it seriously – Yes, trade shows are fun, but you’re also there to work. So enjoy dinner out with some colleagues in the evening to let loose, but during the day, pound the pavement like your business depends on it (because maybe it does and you just don’t know it yet!)
