As an interior designer, at some point or another, you’re either figuring out your fees, or re-thinking them. And in addition to thinking about what you’re going to charge for your services, another important thing you need to think about is how you’re going to charge for your services. And while there are plenty of good reasons to charge hourly, we urge you to give some serious thought to a flat rate, because here’s the kicker – you’ll ultimately make more money with a flat rate. Bold claims, we know, but here’s why you should be seriously considering making the switch.
One of the best things about a flat rate is that it absolutely rewards your productivity and how fast you can turn around projects. And as you gain experience, or develop your processes and procedures, you’re able to complete projects faster, or easier – and you’ll be able to take on more projects in a year, and growing your income exponentially!
And on the flip side of that, if you’re billing hourly, as you become more experienced and are able to turn around projects faster, you’re essentially making less and less money per project because of the time it now takes you to finish a project.
Another great thing about a flat rate is that it adds simplicity to your process. Because you’re no longer having to track your time, or invoice for hourly billing, you’re spending less time on the tedious admin stuff – and invoicing and billing your clients is a heck of a lot more straight-forward.
Think about all the times you’ve been buried in a multitude of invoices from multiple projects, and the time and energy you had to spend managing and keeping track of it all. Wouldn’t it be nice to just like, not have to do that?
In addition to helping you make more money and spend less time on admin work, it also gives your clients transparency and predictability. And why’s that? Because they know exactly what they’re spending (and you know exactly what you’re making too!)
This will also ultimately reduce conflicts with your client because they know what they’re in for, and you’re no longer having to justify how you spend your time on a project!
So you’re all pumped up on the thought of making more money and simplifying your process with a flat rate. Now what? Well, we previously did a webinar on just how to make the change to a flat rate, and you can totally snag the recording to learn how to make the switch yourself. Just put your info in below and we’ll give you the recording, PLUS a flat fee calculator we developed to help you develop a flate rate that works for your business!
